Consumer and community involvement in health and medical research and healthcare improvement has just been made easier with the launch of the Australian Health Research Alliance’s new Health Research Hub.
The Hub is funded by the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) and was generated through evidence synthesis and research, and coproduced with consumers at every stage. It offers access to practical, high-quality resources and tools for researchers, consumers, community members and healthcare professionals.
Project Lead, Professor Helena Teede said the new Health Research Hub is designed to guide implementation of meaningful and effective consumer and community involvement.
“Consumers and community members bring expertise about their health condition and experience of the health system that improves the quality, relevance and direction of health research. They help us understand the priorities of their community and where research is most needed.
“This Hub has been co-designed by consumers and community members, researchers, clinicians and staff working in healthcare improvement to make implementation of consumer and community involvement not only easier but also successful.
“The Hub is a one-stop-shop on everything from how to get started to how to partner to ongoing engagement to payment, reimbursement and recognition to different approaches in relation to consumer and community involvement,” said Professor Teede.
Consumer lead, Ms Ainslie Cahill said involving consumers ensures research is more relevant to community needs and helps to design better and more inclusive health systems to bring benefits to all.
“My experience shows that the best results are achieved through collaboration and partnership, so including consumers in the development and implementation of healthcare research makes sense.
“I am excited by the launch of the Health Research Hub which promises positive outcomes for health consumers as well as health and medical researchers,” said Ms Cahill.
