Department of Health Excellence in Women’s Health Award

Monash Health's Women's Health Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) Statewide Service wins Excellence in Women’s Health

Monash Health’s Women’s Health Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) Statewide Service won Excellence in Women’s Health at last night’s Victorian Department of Health awards.

Australia’s only multidisciplinary statewide PMOS clinic was established in response to women calling for multidisciplinary care. Inspired by the vision of Prof Helena Teede and supported by a Victorian Government grant, it was established and is led by A/Prof Anju Joham.

The clinic was recently expanded into an integrated “one-stop shop,” adding gynaecology, dermatology, general practice and weight management, in addition to the already existing endocrinology, dietetics and dermal therapy (laser hair reduction) services.

The expansion was driven by consumer feedback, clinical audit data, and referral demand analysis, and is delivered by a team with specific PMOS expertise. It was co-designed with women with lived experience and directly translates the 2023 International PMOS Guideline, which was led by MCHRI.

Congratulations to the clinic team, including MCHRI’s PMOS team who also work in the clinic, Dr Jillian Tay, Prof Lisa Moran and Dr Sarah Lang.

MCHRI is a collaborative women’s health partnership between Monash University and Monash Health, leading internationally in PMOS research.
