PCOS experts from around the world met as part of the PCOS Guidelines Development Groups (GDGs) to update the international guidelines for PCOS which are due to be released in 2023.

Updating the PCOS international guidelines is part of the work of the NHMRC-funded Centre of Research Excellence in Women’s Health in Reproductive Life, which is led by Prof Helena Teede, CIA of the Centre and MCHRI.

The update of the international Polycystic Ovary Syndrome guidelines specifically addresses identified gaps and new knowledge generated under the Centre.  The Centre is also updating the international guidelines for infertility and early menopause.

The five groups met in Midway City – California, Prato – Italy, Melbourne – Australia, with a range of international experts – researchers, clinicians and consumers attending different meetings.  The Centre’s early and mid-career researchers were involved in the systematic reviews and metanalysis, which was great exposure and a fantastic opportunity.  This included MCHRI’s Dr Aya Mousa, Dr Jillian Tay and Loyal Pattuwage.

The GDGs have created and expanded necessary data sets and all these outputs will be directly integrated into the guidelines. The updated international guidelines will have a very significant health impact on the health and lives of women with PCOS and will be released in 2023.
