Congratulations to Associate Professor Lisa Moran, from the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation for being awarded a $2.8 Million NHMRC Investigator Grant in the latest round of grant funding.
A/Prof Moran’s research will extend her work with high-risk women and health professionals to improve identification, awareness, screening, lifestyle and weight management during the reproductive years to optimise long term heart disease prevention.
Reproductive aged women, including women with polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility, diabetes in pregnancy and pregnancy-related high blood pressure, are at a higher risk for future diabetes and heart disease and this research aims to offer opportunities for prevention early in life.
A/Prof Moran said, “Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death in Australian women and cardio-metabolic conditions during the reproductive years more than double longer term CVD risk in women and increases their children’s CVD and obesity risk.”
“We will use big data to develop risk prediction tools for identification and screening of women to target for implementation of lifestyle interventions for prevention and treatment of cardiometabolic health. This is critical for improve the health of women and the next generation.”
